As the US continues to accumulate bad debt, Dubai is collecting billionaires. The wealth is so prolific that this Emirate is creating new words. Introducing the ‘bizort’ . . . an innovative new concept that seamlessly blends serious business with essential leisure. The developers would like to market it as the path to attaining a perfect balance of professional and personal priorities.
Starwood has announced a 220-room luxury hotel under the St. Regis brand to open in 2012. The St. Regis Dubai will be part of the mixed-use Starhill Towers & Gallery, a 1.6 million square foot ‘bizort’ project in the city’s burgeoning Business Bay area.
Included in the five-star hotel are three restaurants, two bars, a fitness center, a swimming pool, shops and 4,500 square feet of meeting space. An 80-room portion of the hotel will be St. Regis Residences. Designed by the eminent DP Architects, Singapore, the twin towers are shaped to a convex curve with their elevations forming a wave-like appearance at the peak. The two tower blocks are connected by means of an open-to-sky garden belt that offers a spectacular view of the waterfront.
Starwood currently operates 15 hotels in the city under the Sheraton, Le Meridien, Four Points, and Westin names. It will open its first W-branded hotel here in 2010.
“The signing of The St. Regis Dubai is another sign of Starwood’s commitment to develop all its brands in a fabulous destination like the Middle East,” said Roeland Vos, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Europe, Africa and Middle East. “We are delighted to be working with ETA Star Property Developers on this new project and we hope this development is the beginning of a long-term partnership.”
Starhill Towers is being developed by locally based ETA Star Property Developers LLC, which has 30 million square feet under development in the United Arab Emirates, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Turkey.
